Plan onboard power & solar for your boat

Plan your on-board power like sitting with a Victron marine technician: we first understand your boat and how you use it – only then do we recommend a complete system.

Onboard power and solar for your boat

Whether sailing yacht, motorboat or houseboat: a well-planned onboard electrical system reliably powers refrigeration, navigation, lighting and 230 V devices – even away from the dock. How large the battery bank, solar and inverter need to be depends on your onboard consumption and use. The planner works it out and assembles a matching Victron system.

Frequently asked questions about boat power & solar

How do I plan the solar system for my boat?

The starting point is daily onboard consumption: refrigeration, navigation, lighting, pumps and charging devices. From this follow battery capacity and solar power. The planner uses realistic consumption figures and sizes the battery bank, solar and inverter to match.

Which battery is suitable on board?

For boats, lithium batteries (LiFePO₄) are standard: light, deeply dischargeable and long-lasting. The required capacity follows from consumption and the autonomy you want. The planner sizes the battery bank and matching BMS automatically.

Do I need an inverter on board?

Only for 230 V devices such as a coffee machine or chargers. For 12/24 V loads no inverter is needed. The planner asks about your devices and picks a MultiPlus or Quattro of the right size.

How is the battery charged while under way?

Via the alternator with an Orion DC-DC charger and – on shore power – via the MultiPlus/Quattro charger. Solar charges additionally through a SmartSolar MPPT. The planner ensures all charging sources work together.
